Quick guide

How to use the calculator

  1. Choose Union or Non-Union.Each mode has its own rates, calculation rules, commission check, and pay summary.
Desktop view showing the Union and Non-Union selector
  2. Select the Union membership and rate.Choose Full Member or Apprentice, then select the effective date and GBP/Photo Double, Stand-in, or SAE. Apprentice uses the same rates, replaces the four percentage deductions with a $15 permit fee, and bases commission on Gross Pay before that fee.
Desktop view showing the Union membership, effective date, and rate controls
  3. Enter or split hours.Enter straight, 1.5×, and 2× hours directly. Quick split accepts one day or several days separated with +, such as 13.7 + 12. On mobile, use the + button inside the field to add another day while keeping the number keyboard open. Each day gets its own first 8 hours, next 4 hours, and remaining hours before the totals are combined.
Desktop view showing Quick split and the individual hour fields
  4. Add only the extras on the paystub.Enter mileage, wardrobe, car rental, and meal penalty as shown. The step reset clears these extras without resetting the rest of the calculator.

  5. Verify mileage and meal penalty.Expand Step 4 to compare kilometres and meal-penalty time with paystub amounts. Enter one distance or add trip legs with +, such as 43 + 43; on mobile, the in-field + button inserts the separator. Total shows the combined kilometres. For meal penalty, choose hrs or mins beside the entry. Double-click the kilometre-rate chip to edit it.
  6. Understand the provider totals. The summary shows labour before vacation, 4% vacation pay, EP Subtotal, Cast & Crew gross pay, EP gross pay, deductions, and net pay so different paystub formats can be compared.
Desktop view showing the live pay summary and provider totals
  7. Adjust Union commission settings when needed. For Full Members, double-click Commission base to include or exclude extras. Double-click the Agent row to change its percentage. Apprentice uses a fixed Gross Pay commission base, while its Agent Fee remains editable.
Desktop view showing the expanded Agent commission and deposit details
  8. Edit other saved settings.Double-click Dues, Retirement, Pension, or Insurance to change a percentage. Restore default is available in every editor.
  9. Use the Non-Union comparison carefully. It separates minimum wages, production’s commission add-on, and vacation pay, then compares the included amount with the agent’s charge. The note below explains why 9.0909% can match a 10% production add-on.
